His Green Eyes

I totally got to knit with Berroco Yarn last weekend! I came across some much needed money last friday so Ian and I jumped on the bus to Bountiful. Hemstitched Heirlooms was our destination. Ian wanted me to knit Derek a hat and he picked out the yarn himself. I was leaning more towards the Borlieas but Ian walked up to this wasabi green and said "We have to get this mom because it matches his eyes" It happened to be Berroco's Vintage Chunky. Which knit up fast and soft and I loved every minute of it. He loved his fathers day present and it really does match his eyes. It's a little big because I was eyeballing the measurements and was waaaaaay off. Happy Father's day to that bubby lover of mine, without him I would be lost in the parenting world. We are extremely lucky to have him in our life and Ian knows how much Der loves him and he loves him back just the same. I love you Derek Griffith. You are the man of my dreams and the love of my life. Those green eyes are all mine.

I should be packing and getting ready for the Rainbow Gathering that will be in Washington. My lazyness takes over once again. I have a ton of hats and hand warmers I want to make so I can trade with them. I also have been itching to make tons of jewelry. I have soooo many beads that I can put to good use. But right now I need to get some projects finished and some new ones started. Peace Love and no Lazyness!

Graffiti Knitting

Saturday I went to the Random Acts of Art-Yarn Bombing at Library and Washington square. It's the first thing I've done to out of my Knitting comfort zone. My social knitting skills are non existent. It was also the World Wide Knit in Public Day. I am so glad I went! I first got there not knowing what to do or who to talk to and I happened to run into the perfect lady! Her name was Linda and she was sewing on her "knitted graffti" to a parking meter. I read about this yarn bombing the night before so I wasnt fully prepared so she asked me to help her sew on her blankets to these poles.
After the run around with the festival workers about where we could put the blankets up, we did it!!
Then before Linda and the other girl...her name fails me right now im sorry! left they helped me sew up a scarf I made forever ago. I failed to make an FO post for this along with ten million others so here it is! This is up in Washington Square on 200 east.
After they left I wandered to the Knit in that was under a tree that was being bombed by knitted and crocheted projects. I hate that I didn't take a picture of the tree. The knit in was great and I practically stayed the whole time. I only talked to about three of the people there and I of course was the youngest person there. Derek's fathers day hat needed to be finished so I worked on that and decided to use all the free yarn there to start on a parking meter cozy. This blue yarn was so soft and cozy and thick, which was what I needed for it to knit up quick.
I decided to be the first to "bomb" state street so the lovely drivers of Salt Lake City would have some eye candy while driving to and from work.
Random acts of art calls for Random colors and textures of yarn! The top is more pleasing to the eye than the bottom.
The SLC community will be pretty effin pleased to be putting their quarters into this parking meter.
My lovey boyfriend being silly and threating to cut it off.
Driving by! ha ha ha I hope that it is still up by the time the arts festival starts, which is this thursday. Yours truely will be doing a knitting demonstration from 3-6. It's actually just sitting in a booth and knitting for three hours while people watch. Ok by me!!! I got a free ticket into the fair and I'll be around other knitters.  I am so very excited. I hope to be more involved with knitting groups and activites like this in the future. I can't wait to move back to the city. I feel like this blog is bland and a bunch of rambling. My flash cards are glaring at me as they sit next to me on the couch. Oh and I have been watching Julie and Julia about the blogger who blogged about Julia Child. Fitting and motivating. Good morning and Day to everyone who takes the time to read this. Oh and I have an FO post for the hat I made for Der. I'm out!

T-shirt yarn!

Last night I was watching stefanie japel's video on how to make yarn out of t shirts. I've seen it before but never bothered to try. Last night when Derek got home we cut up a maroon spotted tie dyed shirt I made two summers ago. We watched enchanted and Derek supervised while I cut. I started knitting with the idea to make a cup cozy but its pretty thick one way and too small the other. We planned on there being a pocket for it so we will see what happens ha ha. I wanted it to be done today but I slept till one! We also tried to watch wool 100% last night but there was no sound :'( its suppose to be a creepy movie about two old ladies who find a girl in their house knitting a red sweater. The stills I saw were crazy! There's so much knitting so I'm excited about it. I saw them on cirilla rose's flicker account. Two lame things that make me giddy.1. She uses Susan bates crystal needles like I do :) and the same long yellow size 8 needles I have. I guess that's one. I seriously need to knit more. My lovable Der is off work. Back to my coffee cozy! Good day.

ADD Knit Fest.

I'm pretty disappointed about the hat I designed. I hope that part of my brain improves the more I knit. I asked my newly five year old to model for me. Thus why my pictures are  blurry.

I don't know why he is making that face ha ha ha
I knitted this with 9 and 10 1/2 needles. It came out super huge! I didn't like the pattern after I started the second diamond row..? ha It looks sort of like a native american pattern which may be weird cause I am native american but I don't dig it. I reached my goal and I finished it the night I said I would. The native american pattern actually fit the movie we watched that night called Foxfire. We looked on 'on demand' and we're so indecisive that Der just picked a movie at random and we watched it. I think it was made in the 70s? maybe 60's, funny and entertaining with little story line.
I blocked it on a plate for the beret/slouchy look but I was super impatient and took it off while it was still damp. I just wanted to see it finished! Still overly huge I took a chance and threw it in the dryer. The damp diamonds I knitted with the Eco duo lightly felted. The dryer definitely shrunk it. But not too much. Just enough to fit my brothers enormous noggin. I knitted him three hats. The first was too small, the second medium and the third fit fine but the brim wasn't stretchy at all so he couldn't take it on and off comfortably. This was his from the beginning! He is definitely more patient than I am.
In just three days I've whipped out that hat and some plain brown hand warmers. well warmer. I knitted the first one a couple weeks ago and finally decided to make the other. I don't know what the deal is with my pictures not uploading all the way. There's that gray line on the bottom. Grr.
I'm loving the magic loop method. I've used it for the hacky sacks and all my hand warmers. This is another handwarmer I started right after I made the owl mitts. I love Tweed. This yarn is Lion Heart Vanna's choice. Which is actually one of my favorite yarns that my poor self ...use to be able to afford. I started the ribbing up top but Derek helped me decide to do black again..DUH! What would I do without him? Again I've wasted way too much time reading blogs and staring at yarn. The knitting must continue.

Design Time

I've had in my stash for awhile Cascade Yarns Eco duo that Der bought me for my birthday. It's 70% baby alpaca and 30% merino. I used almost one hank on my hand/arm warmers.
I could guess on how much I had leftover but I have no idea.. I also had in my stash a turquoise color yarn that my friend Celeste bought for me from The Wool Cabin. I wish I knew where the tag was. I think the brand was Sublime. It's a tweed merino I know that. Anyway! I was in class doodling

and I came up with this simple pattern of diamonds and ribs for a hat. I sorta left the idea until I was at the movies with Der and I realized I had a whole ball of the merino yarn and a tiny ball left of the alpaca so I decided to combine them into a hat! And I really love the colors together. I strayed from my original doodle. I think it would look better in one color. I cast on yesterday afternoon, realized my gauge was way off and had to rip it out when Derek got home from work and re cast on. I had one diamond row completed before I went to bed.  I've been working on it feriously since I got out of class. It's going to be done tonight!
Oh and I finished my acrylic brown hat. My boyfriend is such a hot model. I can't decide if I am going to decorate it with buttons or leather or beads. Der says it looks sorta indie just plain so I think I might leave it. I'm not sure though. I've been wearing it all day.

Derek says this is an eerie picture and has a lost spirit vibe. You can't really see the hat but I still dig it. Pictures of my ultra smooth hat coming soon!

Yarn Depression

Every Wednesday night Derek works till 10. I was wasting away at home so I decided to come visit him before he is off. If you don't remember. He works at Michael's. They have tons of new yarn! Real yarn! Some with mohair and alpaca! I also held stitch nations full o sheep which is 100% Peruvian wool! They've always carried wool which I have knitted with and I still actually need to post my fo of the neckercheif cowl thing I made. Anyway, the most glorious sweater I have ever layed eyes on is knitted in Peruvian wool ...by berroco though but still. When I use to mosey around those aisles when I had a job they had nothing like that! Now that I have no money I just stare at it in sink into a depression. I will end on the note that I'm knitting a hat with red heart acrylic yarn and it hurts my hands :'(

CR obsessed

My itching for knitting with what I call "real yarn" is back and on crack. I day dream about it every hour I'm awake. I went to the The Needlepoint Joint last friday (i ditched school and persuaded my boyfriend to eat in ogden so I could coax him into the yarn store...which he loved! and said was the best yarn store he's been in) and it's by far the biggest yarn store I've encountered. I blame that for getting me on a "real" yarn kick and making me super depressed. I have an interview on friday for a part time job and I immediately tell myself..."money to buy yarn!" Which is sad sad because I have a soon to be 5 yr old who should come first and foremost.

I look at my stash of 100% acyrlic yarn and weep inside. I actually have no reason to cry so much about not knitting with "real" yarn because right now I'm knitting with 75% acrylic and 25% rayon from bamboo. It's smoooth as butta in my hands. I'm making motorcycle gloves from  the Luxe Knits book D got me for christmas.
It's actually more of a soft lavender color. My phones sucks at taking pictures of accurate colors.
Since I got home from school, 3pm, I have been reading Cirilla Rose's old ass blog posts from 2005 to 2008. Seriously 3 hours of non stop reading and I'n no where near done. I'm so obsessed with her and all her work it makes me more determined and needy for "real" yarn. Now off to finally feed myself.
