Life Begins

I AM by far the worst blogger in the world. The number one thing on my resolutions list was to be a better at this. Not doing so good...but for good reason! I got me a job. I work at the University Pharmacy right above the Pie pizzeria in SLC. Which coincidently my boyfriend use to work at, well the delivery but it's still right around the corner. I walked in, applied, was asked to come back for an interview and started work two days later. Man I'm good. Der says my face is a real winner. I've been working for two weeks and still finding time to spin and knit!
I'm making my birthday list my bitch. Aawwww yeah. I'm on my last hat and my birthday isn't till next Wednesday. I have tons of FO pictures to take and post this weekend.
My future looks amazing! I'll be moving back to the city, closer to work and all my LYS Eep!
I was knitting at work today and a knitter walked up to me baffled by my continental knitting. She was like "you knit so fast!" I'm still a thrower at heart but continental is super fast, especially when knitting in the round. (I'm knitting my purple simply pleasure hat by purlbee. It's soooooo cute but makes me sniffly) I was also wearing my beatnik sweater and she loved it so much :) It's nice to talk to other knitters. It's rare for me so I get overly excited when it does ha HA HA
I'm going to try and post at least one picture. Der is playing civ on his laptop and my phone is dead and my nook won't upload :( I love being nerds with my babushkins.

OWLS GO!

This is a page from my "scrapbook". The lyrics are from Architecture in Helsinki's Owls Go song. Derek and I listened to this album while apartment searching in the Avenues. We saw Owls everywhere!!! On flags, statues, hanging on sides of houses. Literally everywhere. While I had been obsessed with owls long before this, 2009 was the year of Owls and when Derek and I moved in together. I would love to post more about my scrapbooking technique and my book of love but at a later time because I have an FO!

Pattern:  OWLs by Kate Davies
Yarn: Wool of the Andes Bulky in Porcini 548yds
Needles: Size 10 and 11 US circular
Size: 34"
Started: Jan 3rd 2012 Finished: Jan 7th 2012
My Ravelry Page..yesterday was my ravelry birthday woop!

My first sweater of 2012! My first yoke sweater (Where you knit bottom up in the round and add sleeves and knit the yoke) It was really easy but the first couple of rounds was tight and awkward around the sleeves. So the huge fit I threw in my last post was for nothing. That night I finished up browsing on ravelry and knitted my sleeves to about 15 1/2" and joined them to my body all on one needle. This would have been done on friday but I got super sick and couldn't do anything other than just lay there. I did start on my owls and completed 17 rows of the 19. When Derek got home we were in need of some serious cuddle time and watched the first season of Portlandia. A-O RIVER!! It has the tendency to make you laugh your ass off and then make you feel very awkward and weird. Saturday is when I did my short rows and finished it off. I had the tiniest ball of yarn left. I left out a knit row after the first decrease row right after the Owls.
all I had left! my noro scarf watiting patiently, also my purple  book of love.
Now It's blocked and ready for buttons. I won't be able to buy them till this weekend. As much as I want to hit up Blazing needles for these buttons I have to keep it cheap and I'm hoping I can find all 38 buttons at DI or salvies. I decided to do all the eyes and have one owl a different color. I'm glad I knitted the 34" because I would rather have a baggy sweater than a small one i.e. Beatnik which rides up and I have to constantly pull it down. So annoying. It's mostly baggy under my arms and you can see where the increases stop. It left little pointy things there but steaming might help that. Other than that I love it!! Everything else fits like a dream. Roomy yet so unbelievably cozy. Derek just requested one of his own to match me :) He says to make it super manly and to match his handsome face.

After taking all those pictures in the snow I had to warm up with some tea in my brother's xmen cup...which matched my hat!
I'm seriously going to live in this sweater.
My photographer!! yup. My little five year old helped me take all these pictures.

My birthday Knitting list is well on it's way. All I have left is hats. Hats are easy peasy for me to make so I'm going to squeeze in my brother's hat he bought yarn for and of course some spinning. I haven't spun since Dec 30th! It makes me sick. Oh yes I'm about done on my Noro scarf but I want it to be longer so I'm going to save up for some more yarn.
Other knitterly news..I joined a swap! My very first so I'm nervous and really excited. My swap partner is also a spinner and works at a "real" yarn store so my gift has to be top notch. I suck with deadlines so I better not make a fool of myself.
I plan on joining a Cowl KAL! Something I've never done before either. More about it here.
This year has started out pretty amazing and productive! Knitwise. I hope the rest of the year stays like this.
Back to knitting. over and out. Le Shmub.

OWL Trouble.

Owl Sweater Day 3

It's coming down to the last four inches of my sleeves for my owl sweater and I am so ready to quit. I love the mindless knit but right now its boring and! My four hanks have turned into three very small balls. A scale would be my best friend right now. I'm so pleased that I decided to knit both in the round AT THE SAME TIME. I knitted like crazy today and got from the four inches I did last night to fifteen! According to my measurements from armpit to wrist I need nineteen. I am so very scared that after I finish my sleeves I won't have enough to finish the yoke.

Now I have read that this yarn grows in length when blocked. Several inches. But in other projects there was no mention. Soooooooo I'm seriously debating on stopping at my fifteenish and HOPE...PRAY that my sleeves grow into the length I want or knit to the nineteen and pray for my yarn to last till bind off. BAH!!

Earlier today while watching  me some television

Day 2 finishing up the body

I set out on a mission for more reviews/comments about how much this yarn grows and found three new blogs!
kitfig
knitnook
voolenvineknits

Derek is a stone cold stud. *giggle giggle* my bf snuck this in when I went to the bathroom.

When I think about it ..all the time I've been reading amd wasting time on the net those four inches would have been done. Or damn near close. Sigh. I think I'll compromise and knit seventeen and a half and really hopes it grows at least an inch. Then there's still the factor that I might not have enough yarn!
 ahhhhhhhhhhhhh
....
Hmm I could do 3/4 sleeves? but all the sweaters I've knitted are 3/4 and I want full length! Buying another hank is just dreadful to me. I want to wear this sweater this weekend and being a poor knitter I've already spent way too much money on yarn that really should have gone towards responsible stuff. I want to cry and throw a huge fit. Only thing to do is keep knitting and wish for the best. Wish me luck!
Shmubbly Shmubble. *when I'm grumpy/mad Derek calls me Shmubbly*

New Year, New Knits

1st Resolution on my list is...BE A MORE CONSISTENT BLOGGER.

Since Sunday I've wanted to write this post but kept putting if off. My first FO of 2012 is a Rasta colored hat requested by a loooong time friend who I've known since I was 8! He was 16 or 17 maybe 18..dating my friends older sister. We got reaquainted through Myspace when I was 18 and have stayed in touch ever since. He's always invited to family parties and birthdays. We laugh about the time my mom called the cops on him psh! Har Har Har..I'm rambling. I knit this hat up in a day and I'm getting the knack of knitting jogless stripes by reading this darling tutorial.
Yarn: Wool of the Andes Worsted in colors. Red, Grass and Tumeric.
Cascade 220 Superwash in Chocolate Tweed ..remnants from this little number
Needles: Size 8 16" circular needles

My last FO of 2011 is a Nook cover for my....NOOK! So luxurious and colorful I love it!
Yarn: Noro Taiyo about 50gr
Needle: size 8 straight needles.

Back to my Knitterly Resolutions.
This year I want to conquer all that I never got a chance to do last year. Which technically was my very first year as a knitter. I cast on my first scarf for Ian in Nov? Sept of 2010 and haven't stopped since. I learned a lot and knitted a pluther of items. 3 full sweaters! almost 4 if I would have finished Ian's autumn sweater. I'm sadden that I never properly blogged them. .anyway! Check out my ravelry project page for all my other FO's. Keep in mind I also knitted a bunch of gifts throughout and forgot to take pictures or even mention them. So as said in the beginning My first goal is to be a better, wittier, more consistent blogger.
This is a list I compiled of techniques I really want to try:
  • Two-Color Brioche I think I'll start with something simple like this
  • Fair Isle.. I've dabbled in this a bit but I would like to try something more challenging and small like..Fiddler Mitts by Ysolda Teague
  • More and More and More Designing
  • Double Knitting nothing in mind I just want to learn!
  • Mastering all sorts of Button holes...he he he that sounds silly
  • Also mastering all the cast on/bind off methods out there. So far I use the long tail cast on method on almost every knitted piece unless it specifies. (like Insou used the tubular cast on..I believe and I loved it! It was tricky but I got it my first try and loved the end result)
  • Crochet a full garment I've known how to crochet since I was 7 and I never really made anything till the fall of 2010 when I saw knitted head bands everywhere and I wanted my own but all I knew how to do was crochet. Thus my crochet head bands with flowers were born and sold for 5 dollars to the girls at work who loved them :) I also made me black and brown leg warmers that I wear almost everyday. Anyway, I would like to crochet a hat and a sweater or dress this year. I can never read crochet patterns so I have to get over that hump and get to it.
  • SOCKS!!!!!!!!!
So that is my list for right now. I know there are tons more techniques I want to try or types of knitted things I would like to knit. I'll of course bring those up as I continue my knitting journey.

Since the new year I've casted on two more projects! Remember that list from last post? I started it with force!!

My Noro stripped scarf after one episode of Breaking Bad. We started Monday night and after episode 4 on season 1 I was 8 inches up! I love knitting this because I just zone out while watching my show that I hardly remember switching colors. But after 28.5 inches I started to get bored and wanted to play with my ball winder so I decided to wind my Owl sweater yarn.

Wool of the Andes in bulky in Porcini. My first time knitting with this yarn and I like it, although I've heard that it pills a lot. I cast on for my Owl sweater last night and I've finished the main body today and cast on for my sleeves. I've decided to knit them two at a time in the round using this kind lady's instructions. I hate knitting the same thing twice ..like sleeves and I want them to be even steven. I must get back to one of those projects and watch more breaking bad.
